This is the story of a fish called 'Shamin' that comes from a small pond. Life was tough for the fish since there are not many fishes want to live their life to the fullest. Most of the fishes have the idea of just being the best fish in the pond for the fisherman. The little fish, however, has a big dream to wave its tiny tail in a great big sea, living to the fullest and freely.
'Shamin' is more or less different from the others. Wanted to be as strong as a shark, as big as a whale, a smart as a dolphin, 'Shamin' want to be the best; not only for himself, but for the family and community of the pond.
It started its quest to live freely by jumping from one pond to another with some other cool fishes it met along the way. It almost lost hope since the same things as it does. Until, it accidentally jumped into a pond that led to the great big sea.
To be there, at the pond, this scared this small fish enough since there are a lot of predators that want to take this little fish down. Dangerous routes everywhere. But to see itself survive and doing good in the great big sea, 'Shamin' managed to pass through the obstacles and finally arrived at the great big sea. But then, it realized that to be in a great place needs a lot of effort; there will always be obstacles, even bigger than before.

But then, it realized that to be in a great place needs a lot of effort; there will always be obstacles, even bigger than before.
This actually changed 'Shamin' bit by as bit. And it also realized that this change should not be just for him, but for everyone to live as better creature. 'Shamin' took a detour to its own small pond and convinced as many fishes as it could, to join for the fight to be a better creature.

The great big sea - Enactus and the real world
This is a story of a student's journey from UniKL MIAT with the name of Muhammad Shamin Halim. Lives rigidly, shy, and not a proactive person before but with the spirit that he gained from the surroundings, he was determined to change his life. Not by coincidence but fate.
In Enactus, he went through a lot of thick and thin to learn, to practice, to be a better person. Enactus gives the chance to students to practice what they did not learn in classroom and the institution; to shape a better person to be a future leader, to contribute the communities. Stepping out from the comfort zone, Shamin is now a different person that he was once was.

In 1967, he joined MSA as an engineer. After the split of MSA to Malaysia Airline System (MAS) and Singapore International Airline (SIA) in 1972, Dato' Resham Singh accepted the offer as an Aircraft Engineer Executive at MAS and later promoted to Director Head of Engineering. Over the next three decades, over 6,000 staff were trained in various disciplines in the aviation industry.
This has led to the development of in-house capability for maintenance, over-haul and testing capability for the entire fleet of 126 aircraft with world wide operations, domestic, regional and international. The entire organisation of staff, facility, equipment and procedures were approved by Malaysia Director of Civil Aviation (DCA). In addition, we also acquired the approval of thirty-five countries worldwide (Federal Aviation Administration, USA, Civil Aviation Authority, UK, Joint Aviation Authority, EU).
This has resulted in a transfer of high technology, self-sufficiently, skilled employment, reduction in cost, thus savings of foreign exchange, reduction in expensive spare parts due to turn around time (TRT) and flexibility in operations. To further improve the productivity, efficiency and maintain high-level quality and reliability the entire facility and operations were fully computerised in compliance with international standards.
He has served as a board member in various aviation companies and was also Chairman and Chief Delegate to Orient Airlines Aviation (OAA) and International Airport Transportation Association (IATA), Montreal, Canada.
Due to his contribution to the aviation industry, Dato' was recognised and awarded the Fellowship of the Royal Aeronautical Society, U.K. (FRAeS) followed by an award by the Engineering Council, U.K. as incorporated Engineer (IENG) in 1991. He thanked and appreciated the support of various Chairman's, Member of Boards, Managing Directors, Management and his talented team, international airlines, manufacturers and various government regulatory authorities.
After 37 years in aviation, he retired in 1995. With his vast experience worldwide and global networking, he embarked on a highly successful career as an aviation consultant over a period of 10 years. Currently, he is diversifying his properties in Malaysia. Singapore and Australia.
For the last 18 years, apart from his successful career, Dato' Resham Singh enjoys active investment in social and human capital for the purpose of social change within his network. He believes that good education eradicates poverty and opens door to freedom; providing endless opportunities to a greater future for everyone who is prepared to work hard.
Dato' Resham Singh shares similar aspiration with CEO of Enactus Malaysia Foundation (EMF), Datin Norela Nuruddin in nurturing future talented leaders of tomorrow, today. On this shared vision that led him to become EMF 1st Social Entrepreneurship Philanthropist.

Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE), the world's best-known and most successful program helping university students to create community empowerment projects has changed its name to Enactus to reaffirm its long-standing commitment to using entrepreneurial action as catalyst for progress.
The new name, Enactus was revealed on September 30 2012 by SIFE International at the start of the SIFE World Cup in Washington D.C.
This name highlights three tenets of the organization's focus :
Entrepreneurial - having the perspective to see an opportunity and the talent to create value from that opportunity.
Action - the willingness to do something and the commitment to see it through even when the outcome is not guaranteed.
Us - a collection of people who see themselves connected in some important way individuals that are part of a greater whole.
While the mission of SIFE has remained consistent since its inception in 1975, the goal of the name change is to typify the work of the organization, whoe leaders believe it will better reflect the goals of entrepreneurs in action for a greater good. In fact, the name change is only the first step in an aggressive effort to expand the organization's level of reach and impact. Equally important is the influence Enactus has on 62,000 students that participate in creating projects each year. The experience has a profound impact on the kind of leaders they become, and the type of work they choose to do in their lives.
SIFE was created almost 38 years ago in USA - long before concepts like micro-loans and social enterprises even existed - in order to prove the transformative power the entrepreneurial spirit can have in people's lives. The core belief of the organization has always been that the same kind of creativity and rigor and accountability that fuels business around the world is not only transferable but actually essential to human progress.
Enactus is also committed to fostering leadership among students who can look beyond the status quo and bring imagination and ingenuity and a sense of possibility to the challenges offered by the present moment, and to embrace them with courage, faith and hope.

I would like to welcome you to Enactus Malaysia Foundation's Annual National Exposition (EMNE 2013). This is the first National Exposition after the launch of the Enactus name, and my first as the new Patron of the Foundation, so I am very excited about what we have in store over the coming days.
EMNE 2013 will witness 28 competiting teams froms 26 universities nationwide, including 5 universities participating for the first time - the Asia Pacific University of Technology and Innovation (APU), Universiti Tenaga Nasional Putrajaya Campus, Universiti Kuala Lumpur - MIAT, Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP) and Universiti Pertahanan Nasional Malaysia (UPNM). The judges - and I am very honoured to be one of them - come from a wide range of disciplines and backgrounds, including startup entrepreneurs, corporate leaders from various sectors such as banking, accounting, computer software, broadcast media, transportation, program development, non-profit organisations and also a philantropist. In addition to being judges, I hope that they will also serve as role models and mentors to the students in this year's competition, and continue to be involved in some way beyond this event.
I personally agreed to be a part of Enactus when I heard about its noble goal of working with youth to achieve social objectives through the engine of business, focusing on impact. Since then, I have continued to be impressed by the quality of the team members and the commitment they have shown. I hope that beyond their time in university, Enactus students will continue to be involved in working towards positive social impact in their communities and become the leading social entrepreneurs and corporate leaders of tomorrow.
I would like to thank all our partner and supporter - the Ministry of Education, Khazanah Nasional, Maybank, TalentCorp, KPMG, Media Prima, Westports Malaysia, Microsoft, Graduan, Perbadanan Nasional and our very first EMF Social Entrepreneurship Philantropist, Dato' Resham Singh for their continued support and belief in Enactus' strategic objectives. The Orang Asli are the indigenous natives of Malaysia; are scattered in small isolated villages across the nation. Traditionally hunters and gatherers, the community have become more agricultural-centric; farming have become their chosen way of life. However, they farm mostly for themselves; and eke out simple lives below the national poverty line. Such a way of living does not generate much income, and this in turn leads so social and economic problems for the community.
Most importantly, lack of a sustainable and continuous income leads to their children not being able to attend school on a regular basis, hence continuing cycle of poverty and hopelessness for the community as a whole.
This project aims to develop the Orang Asli, Kensiu community of Semang Negrito in Kedah. They are often neglected by the society, faces social problems, lack educational awareness and experience unstable economic conditions.
Therefore, Enactus UUM identified their problems and their needs to improve the standard and quality of living through education and entrepreneurship. The focus of this project is on the native women, children and the new entrepreneurs of the Kensiu community.
The Enactus UUM team introduced the Women Empowerment Module (WEM) to improve the health and hygiene of the women in the tribe. The women attend the medical camp that teaches them the importance of hygiene and how to maintain hygiene in their homes.
They were also taught to practice proper grooming that increased their self-esteem. The students first collected clothing via a donation drive and then conducted a beauty camp where the native women participated in a fashion show. The women enjoyed the change of style and took care of their image and hygiene better after the fashion show.
The New Entrepreneur Start-Up (NEST) within the HOME project was catered to train new entrepreneurs from the Kensiu community. The Enactus UUM students saw the potential in 3 natives and taught them how to run a chicken breeding business.
From the business, the new entrepreneurs generated a total of RM 5040 annually in their chicken rearing business. The students also assisted the native women to produce Kabu-kabu pillows made from cotton harvest nearby the village. From the business, the women entrepeneurs generated total revenue of RM 988 from the first batch of pillow-selling business.
Due to the low interest in education from the Kensiu children, Inducement Education Module (IEM) was introduced by the Enactus UUM team to promote a fun learning method through Step by Step and Eco-Me module.
The children were taught basic Mathematics and English using fun methods prepared and endorsed by the lecturers of UUM. The Step by Step module has also been certified by JPN Kedah and is now adopted by the teachers in Sekolah Kebangsaan Siong, Baling. It also instills enthusiasm in education among the children of the tribe.
The Eco-Me taught the childrenthe importance of hygiene and how to recycle bottles in gardening.
