Borneo Coco is a well-known local Sabah coconut pudding delicacy produced by families and cherished among the people of Tuaran, Sabah; a small town located in 15 kilometres away from the capital city of Kota Kinabalu. Despite once being advertised in television and magazines, lack of marketing skills and business management has dwindled the once-thriving business into a small day-to-day existence. Enactus UMS decided to restore this local proud heritage to its one-time glory; and at the same time improve the business and lives or makers and traders of this local delicacy.

To rejuvenate the rejuvenating local pudding, Enactus UMS identified coconut puddings sold along Jalan Sulaman Tuaran as the best-rated in the market.

Enactus UMS educated the owners on entrepreneurship and marketing skills; and implemented proper business structures and processes e.g. consistent product testing, a permanent production site, better product packaging, a solid advisory board.

Ethical practices and good hospitality were also stressed. Once the business had strong foundations, Enactus UMS took them beyond Tuaran through collaborations with Kota Kinabalu City Council to market and sell Borneo Coco during major festival such as annual Harvest Festival and Environmental Awareness campaigns.

From only RM 750.00 monthly, the traders' income grew to RM 1,800.00 a month.

Phase 2 targeted uplifting Tuaran community as a whole in a three-pronged approach. First, by working with Sabah Tourism Board a Borneo Coco webpage was set-up to e-market the product to a larger population.

Secondly, Enactus UMS transformed Tuaran into a Sabah tourist attraction through partnership with 30 tourist agencies, designating Jalan Sulaman as a must-visit tourist attraction and promoting the unique local delicacy to local and foreign tourist. Finally, "Read Malaysia Campaign" was launched, to encourage the usage of better English in per month from 26 countries.

Through continuous education and monitoring, the coconut pudding traders have taken new strides in having proper effective marketing strategies, presentable attires and good proper waste management to ensure hygienic production of delicacy. Along with planned mass media publicity campaigns, Borneo Coco is set to claim back its position as Sabah's proud local delicacy.
